5 Girls Book Reviews is a great blog run by – you guessed – 5 girls, a mom and 4 daughters. Angel (13) reviewed my two YA books. I struggle to find the right shelf in online bookshops for what are probably ‘middle grade’ books so it was interesting to get public feedback from a 13 year old. ‘On the Other Hand’ has been used as a class reader because it encourages discussion of prejudice and peer pressure, and teachers’ resources are available.
I was surprised by Angel’s comment on the follow-up ‘Crystal balls’ that it would appeal to those who liked ‘black magic’. I am so used to stories with a supernatural element that the term ‘black magic’ sounded somehow more like this should be a banned book. Interesting! And obviously made it less popular with Angel than ‘On the Other Hand’. You can read the review here.
